What part? I figured DHARMA evolved from the U.S. Army being their in 1954. They were a group of scientist studying the unique properties of the island (Polar bears for zoology, the Lamp Post to find it again, time travel in the Orchid etc.) The writers did say that DHARMA wouldn't play a large role in the show anymore, but it's connection to Michigan has some kind of significance.
