What are the health benefits for meditation?

I have always felt that it allows an individual to find an ability to deal with stress in a better fashion. By being able to find your "center", a place that allows you be calm in stressful situations you body is able to handle stressful situations in a better fashion. Stress is a huge contributor to peoples poor health condition in many areas.
