Question by WorriedAboutMyRocky on "Dharma":

Like, the DHARMA Institution in "Lost" had to go to the island for a reason, and even if they crashed on the island, what were they doing all that time between them crashing and the plane wreck survivors arriving. And do the numbers: 4,8,15,16,23,and 42 mean anything to you? Thanks!

im guessing you mean DHARMA initiative? cause there is no institution in Lost. except for the santa rosa mental hospittal. anyway they were a research team/scientists that just wanted to study the electromagnetic properties of the special island. they also tested animals and such. the DHARMA initiative DID NOT CRASH ON THE ISLAND. they WILLINGLY arrived there by submarine. im guessing you have never seen lost, because your question is kinda irrelevant. the dharma folk were a group in the 70's, that, like i said, studied the unique properties of the island. ben linus, a kid during that time, hated his father and dharma so he teamed up with the island natives, the hostiles, and when he was an adult he wiped out all of the dharma. so dharma is non-existant. the people that live in those barracks and stations are "the others", hostiles, jacob's followers, etc. and they just kinda lived the good life...it seems like they still did some studies of the island, like juliet and pregnant women, but mostly just followed jacob's orders, since they were all willingly there. (all but juliet) those numbers are from a specific scientific equation that predicts the end of humanity, dharma broadcasted them from the radio tower, where Danielle Rousseau's science team heard the broadcast, causing their crash on the island. it is also where the crazy guy from hurleys mental hospital heard them. he was working with the military and they listened to that broadcast like all day, causing them to get stuck in his head, making him go crazy. thats why he ended up in the hospital, and hurley memorized them.
