Are they racists?

Question by smeagolrocks on "Feng Shui":

I am asian and my husband is white. I moved to US when I was in my 20s so I have an accent but other than that I am well educated and have a good job. We are very much in love and have a good family and 2 kids. However, from time to time I feel I am excluded from his family. He has a big family with many sisters. Their spouses are all white. When they have family events, the spouses are all included in the planning/conversations but I am not. No one asks me for help or opinion or anything. I just get a last minute notice to go here and there. When they are all together, they talk about things they are familiar with and I am usually sitting there on my own. Once in a while some one will turn to me to ask me something like "Hey what is Feng Shui?" and when I try to expain they do not seem to be interested, they just do that to be polite I guess. When they call our house, some of them do not even talk to me , they just ask for my husband directly. I have some other "white" friends I am more comfortable to be with. Like my friend Diane, she has some grown-up children and they all talk to me and tease me the same way they treat other people. They do not see my color and I do not see theirs. As a matter of fact, we spend Thanksgivings with Diane and her family every year because we enjoy that better. Thomas, Asia is not one coutry and "Feng Shui" is a Chinese word. A Thai or Indian may not know Chinese just like a German or French does not know Englist although they are white.
