Can a professional medical doctor "prescribe" natural therapies?

Question by Singwings on "Natural Therapy":

I would love to hear from anyone who has worked closely within the medical environment. I want to know if a professional medical doctor who is working in a hospital environment could (and how could the go about it) prescribe natural therapies to their patients and what would happen to them if they did? What would be the reaction of their peers and alma-maters? Could they implement natural therapies along with traditional therapies? If so, how could a doctor harmoniously go about "prescribing" such natural therapies in their day to day practice.

Yes, an MD, if familiar with and trained in alternative medicine, can prescribe natural therapies. There are some MDs who do both and feel the two disciplines go hand in hand. I have no idea what their peers think. Probably nothing at all.
