What ever happened to colloidal silver, natural human growth hormones and live enzyme therapy?
Answer by Az R
Colloidal silver is one of the most thoroughly debunked snake oils of the last century. It has no use for treating human ailments of any sort, whatsoever. Human growth hormones are used on a daily basis - albeit grown from a recombinant source (human gene in bacteria). If you mean natural in the sense of taken out of a human body - well.. you'd have to grind up hundreds, if not thousands of human corpses to get a single dose. There are legitimate medical uses for HGH, but there's also some very serious side effects to using it. It's also ferociously expensive. 'live enzyme therapy' doesn't make sense. Enzymes aren't alive. Generally, enzymes don't make good therapeutic substances, they have to be injected intravenously, as you can't take them by mouth. Even given IV, most are rapidly destroyed by RES and so on. There's some ideas for breaking up clots, and wound infections, but these are very expensive propositions, mostly still experimental. Marine biology is one of the most fascinating and intensely studied areas of biology. There aren't all that many plants at the bottom of the ocean though - the whole lack of sunlight thing. And on the subject of ocean water, check out www.reefcentral.com and reefkeeping.com to see what people -can- duplicate from the ocean. It's actually damned impressive.
